Trends in salsa come and go, but Angelucho says it’s impossible to go wrong with rootsy Cuban influences.
“I represent the traditional Cuban music, the one that makes you want to dance,” he says. Angelucho, born Angel Bermudez, has long been known as one of Houston’s most elegant salsa artists and his lively dance rhythms appeal to all ages. He and his band Copacabana have performed at festive venues such as Mi Luna, Hugo’s, Los Tios, Majorca,Taco Milagro, Rioja and Mi Luna.
With resonating brass and piano runs, his sound often hearkens back to the 1950s golden age of Cuban music, when bandleaders like Perez Prado, Beny Moré and Desi Arnaz made the mambo, cha-cha-cha and guaguancó internationally fashionable.
Angelucho boasts one of the most commanding voices on the scene, a graceful baritone that handles slow boleros with romanticism and lively merengues with verve.
