An accomplished jazz pianist, composer, and
arranger, Matt Lemmler grew up in a New
Orleans home where music reigned supreme.
Critics are impressed by his original work, but equally amazed at his
interpretations of jazz standards, informed by a fresh and exciting vision
entirely his own while respecting the roots of the music. Some of
the highest accolades have been for his album Portraits of Wonder, a tribute to
the work of Stevie Wonder. While still in high school, he studied with jazz
patriarch Ellis Marsalis, and has worked with many modern greats, including
Harry Connick, Jr., Pete Fountain, Terence Blanchard, Charmaine Neville, Kenny
Werner, Harold Danko, and a long list of others. Not long after
being hired to replace Ellis Marsalis as Assistant Professor of Jazz Piano at
the University of
New Orleans, Lemmler
became a Katrina refugee. He has found a second home in Houston, but still conjures the mojo and magic of New
Orleans when he plays.
